PROFESSIONAL EXPERIENCE
Manager, Business Continuity & Consulting, EMEA – Hitachi Data Systems, Stoke Poges, UK - 3/04 to current
During the past two years I have been responsible for developing, managing, and delivering Hitachi Data System's high-end Business Continuity and Consulting practices within the European marketplace. This position required that I regularly engage with key decision-makers within HDS, our partners, and our various clients for the purpose of communicating our value proposition in the consulting arena. Additionally, I was responsible for developing, training, and managing a team of highly skilled experts in the areas of business consulting, risk analysis, disaster recovery, business continuity, and economic strategies. Finally, I was a key participant in the analysis, development, and marketing of new consulting offerings within our suite of services.
My marketing and communications responsibilities required that I meet with the various country managers, sales managers, and key employees within the HDS European organization for the purpose of communicating the importance of leading with business consulting for the advancement and maturity of our sales model. Having started business as a hardware-only vendor, it was critical that HDS make the move into a more solutions-focused organization in order to remain competitive. In order to reinforce this message, I would often participate in the delivery of sales and marketing training sessions designed to enable our staff to better deliver upon these goals.
In addition to my internal marketing services, I was key in delivering similar messages directly to our partner and client base. As consulting was a relatively new area to HDS within the EMEA marketplace, I was required to take a key position in assisting account teams in developing and delivering these important messages to our customers and prospects. Depending on the experience of the various teams I would act as a mentor, guide, consultant, and/or leader within many of our prospect accounts. This responsibility required that I sometimes personally communicated our marketing messages directly to some of our key accounts. In this capacity, I also assisted in the development and delivery of important RFP responses, the largest of which was a $150M proposal to Shell Oil.
In my capacity as a consulting team leader, I was required to identify and recruit experienced sales and technical staff, build them into a cohesive whole, train them in areas where deficiencies existed, and then manage their activities such that they were able to market and deliver our consulting services directly. As part of this task, I was responsible for organizing and delivering training in a number of key areas including ITIL Service Management, Risk Assessment, Business Continuity, and Consulting methods. By organizing regular team meetings and conference calls, I was able to unify this group of diverse staff into a working whole able to successfully market and deliver our various consulting services.
Due to my role as the Business Consulting Practice Manager, I was often consulted regarding the development and refinement of new and existing services. In this regard I would identify teams of subject matter experts to participate in group discussions regarding HDS's various service offerings for the purpose of guiding the development and enhancement of each. Our newest consulting offering, Storage Management Process Consulting, was a direct result of this type of effort.
In part because of my effort and the effort of my team, HDS's EMEA Global Solution Services department has regularly met and/or exceeded its sales and profitability goals.
Senior Systems Engineer, Major Accounts – Hitachi Data Systems, Santa Clara, CA - 1/01 to 3/04
During my tenure as a Senior Systems Engineer I was responsible for all facets of the senior technical relationship for various Fortune 500 accounts within the United States. Some of these accounts were Cummins Engine, Sallie Mae Financial, Eli Lilly Pharmaceuticals, Automotive Finance Corporation, and the Defense Finance and Accounting Service of the United States Department of Defense. Services that I provided covered the gamut of sales and marketing, management, technical consulting and delivery, educational curriculum development and delivery, and more.
My sales and marketing responsibilities included the development and execution of numerous successful focus account strategies, the assembly and presentation of various solicited and unsolicited C-level proposals and RFPs, marketing campaign development, seminar presentations, relationship building, entertaining, correspondence, and more. Toward the end of this role, I was the principle developer of both a 3.5 million dollar proposal to Sallie Mae Financial and a comprehensive consolidation proposal to Cummins Engine. Currently, HDS is the sole storage provider for Cummins and a key and increasing provider for Sallie Mae.
The management and technical responsibilities that I provided include the development, oversight, and participation within numerous professional services delivery teams in various areas of competency. Services delivered include systems analysis and design, comprehensive storage architecture design, disaster recovery and business continuity consulting, performance analysis and tuning, and data warehousing design and delivery. Highlights from this area of responsibility included my team’s successful implementation of the enterprise storage consolidation at Cummins, the rapid migration and performance improvements associated with the Department of Defense, and the successful competitive take-out provided to Automotive Finance.
In addition to my sales, marketing, management, and technical responsibilities, I had been the principle in the development and delivery of curriculum associated with many of HDS’s various products and services. The classes that I have led include “Lightning 9980V Architecture”, “HiStar Performance Optimization “, “Netapp NAS Deployment and Functionality”, along with numerous other short courses and seminars.

During our ownership of BCI, the company grew from a staff of two to a staff of fifteen. BCI also employed numerous independent consultants, sub-contractors, and service providers. At this point my responsibilities expanded to include hiring, managing, and training technical staff of various backgrounds and capabilities. I remained the primary service provider for all tasks that required a higher level of expertise. As the business continued to grow, I was required to hire and manage a separate sales and marketing team, along with the associated support and administrative staff.

Additional projects included the development and deployment of the Indiana Workforce Development LAN/WAN system, various application development projects for Purdue, and hundreds of smaller LANs and WANs for various other clients.
BCI was completely integrated with many of our key customers. This was true to the extent that we were regularly asked to participate in planning, budgeting, forecasting, strategizing, and even employment and termination sessions for many of our valued customers.
During my tenure with BCI, the company leased and purchased substantial commercial office properties along with other assets and holdings. BCI also regularly sponsored and participated in various local and regional charity events and fundraisers including The Hunger Hike, Habitat for Humanity, various HIV/AIDS events, and homelessness awareness programs.
